Bell & Gossett Series PL Pumps - A wonderful alternative to wet rotor small circulator pumps

Bell & Gossett Series PL pumps – A wonderful alternative to wet rotor small circulator pumps

Circulator pumps are used for circulating a liquid or gas in a closed circuit and thus are very useful in hydronic heating and cooling systems. The circulators that are used for a single house or for a small scale industry are smaller in structure and rated at a fraction of a horse power. These pumps are called the small circulator pumps and are not only useful for home heating, but are also useful for potable water recirculation (plumbing), and solar thermal applications.

Bell & Gossett are renowned for their small circulator pumps. The Bell and Gossett Series PL pumps are inline permanently lubricated close coupled small circulator pumps, which are specifically designed for quiet operation in hydronic, radiant and geothermal heating and cooling systems. B&GSeries PL pumps are used in both homes and larger buildings and comes with motors from 1/6 HP to 2/5 HP. They come in cast iron or lead-free bronze constructed with oil lubricated, wet rotor or dry rotor bearings. The Bell & Gossett cast iron Series PL pump comes in cast iron and are used solely for closed hydronic systems, while the bronze pumps are used for pumping potable, domestic water.

WORKING PRINCIPLE OF BELL & GOSSETT SERIES PL PUMP:

Bell and GossettSeries PL circulating pumps have an obvious advantage over wet rotor pump is that unlike the wet-rotor pump it can be serviced or repaired while connected to the piping. The working principle of the Bell & Gossett Series PL pump is same as that of most other small circulators.

The Series PL pump is used mainly for circulating liquids in a closed loop. These pumps are mainly useful for supplying hot water on demand. With the Series PL pump you won’t have to wait for the water to heat after you turn a dedicated tap. In a typical hydronic heating system, the water is heated by the heater and flows through the pipes into the tap. Once you turn off the tap, the hot water in the pipes cools off. So when you turn the tap on again after sometime, the water takes some time to heat up as the heater will only heat water once a tap is turned on again. This wait for hot water is eliminated with the use of Bell and Gossett Series PL circulating pump.

The B&G Series PL pump runs on electricity and the electric motor inside the pump is connected to the impeller. The impeller is a small wheel with a series of angled blades that spins along with the motor. When you turn on the Bell and Gossett PL pump, the electric motor spins the impeller which in turn pushes and compresses the water, thus keeping it warm.
