Bell & Gossett Series 1522 Centrifugal Pumps – A multifaceted pump for many applications

Centrifugal Pumps are one of the most common types of pumps. They covert the rotational energy of the electric motors into hydrodynamic energy to move liquid. The main advantage of using a Centrifugal Pump is that these pumps do not have any drive seals, eliminating the possibility of leaks. This feature is especially useful in applications where hazardous chemicals have to be pumped. Centrifugal Pumps are used as hazardous liquid will not leak or seep into the electric motor. Because the pump chambers in Centrifugal Pumps are separated from the electric motor by an air gap, which produces a thermal barrier and therefore no potentially-damaging heat transfer can occur.

Bell & Gossett is renowned for their Centrifugal Pumps and their series 1522 is an improvement on the series 1510. This new Bell & Gossett series 1522 is very useful for hydronic heating and cooling systems and various industrial applications as well as for general service. There are several Centrifugal Pumps available in the market and National Pump Supply stocks all of them. But the Bell & Gossett series 1522 is renowned for their low price and their robust operation. These pumps are often used in metering applications where precise volumes of liquid must be moved, for example in food production or laboratory processes.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF BELL & GOSSETT SERIES 1522 PUMPS:

  • Bell & Gossett Series 1522 pumps are end-suction Centrifugal Pumps with a front suction, top discharge design.
  • They are available in 1/4 HP to 3/4 HP in 1750 RPM and 3450 RPM speeds and 115 volt, 115/230 volt, or 208-230/460 volt motors and are rated up to 175 psi working pressure at 225°F.
  • The liquid cavity of the Bell and Gossett series 1522 is sealed off at the pump shaft using an internally flushed mechanical seal and carbon seal ring, suitable for continuous operation at 225°F.
  • The pump volute is made up of cast iron or cast bronze, thus making it one of the most reliable in hydraulic functions.
  • The impeller is brass enclosed type, keyed to the shaft and secured by a lock washer and nut.
  • The pump shaft is made up of steel and thus guarantees a long life.
  • The shaft sleeve is made out of two materials – stainless steel or copper alloy, thus extending the pump life.
  • The pump motors of series 1522 have heavy-duty bearings, adequate for the maximum load for which the motor is designed.
  • Bell & Gossett Series 1522 pumps are close coupled, single-stage, vertically-split case design.

ADVANTAGES OF USING A BELL & GOSSETT SERIES 1522 CENTRIFUGAL PUMP:

  • The compact design minimises space requirements.
  • Being an end-suction pump, it is one of the low cost pumps for any application.
  • The flexible spring coupler design between the pump and motor dampens any additional noise and vibration.
  • Series 1522 bronze-fitted pumps with bronze impellers are ideal for any heating or cooling pumping application where the front-suction, top discharge design is needed.
  • They have a "back pull-out" design, enabling easy service and maintenance.
  • The close coupled, single-stage, vertically-split case design makes it easy to service without disturbing the pipe connections.
  • Wear, friction loss, and noise are all eradicated in the Bell and Gossett series 1522 pumps thus ensuring that the motor is as efficient as possible.

WORKING PEINCIPLE OF BELL & GOSSETT SERIES 1522 PUMPS:

Bell & Gossett series 1522 pumps are basically an end suction and thus have only one impeller and have a volute type casting. The impeller is on the same shaft as the electric motor that drives the pump with no separate coupling between them. The liquid is pumped through the vanes of the impeller which increases the velocity of the liquid. This high velocity liquid is then transferred to the volute casing where the high velocity is converted to high pressure through a diffusion process.

One of the advantages of the Bell and Gossett pumps is its low cost, low noise and its ability to pump different kinds of liquids, including sewage and hazardous chemicals. For most household or light industrial uses, the Bell & Gossett Series 1522 pump is an excellent choice
