Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps
Specifications, Functioning, and Uses
What are Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps?
The Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps are the high-quality pipe-mounted pumps, made up of cast iron, ductile iron, or bronze casing, that are specifically designed for space-saving installation and long service life. These pumps are basically used for the below purposes-
- HVAC-system pumping
- Light industrial/ process pumping (water or glycol based)
- Cooling and heating systems
- Pressure boosting systems
- Industrial applications requiring a compact pump
- OEM (Cooling tower, spray washer, fountain, etc)
Technical specifications of Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps
- Performance Range: Up to 132 L/s (2,100 USgpm) flow; up to 150 m (450 ft) head
- Power: Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps gives the power at 0.25 kW to 45 kW (0.33 hp to 60 hp)
- Configuration: These pumps have inside single-spring mechanical seal
- Size: The standard size of these vertical in-line pumps is40 mm to 200 mm (1.5" to 8")
Design specifications of Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps
Below are some of the main design features of the Armstrong 4380 series pumps-
- Features the Industry standard face mounted motor
- Comes with an inside type mechanical seal with Silicon carbide seat which is serviceable without breaking pipe connections
- Features the flush and vent connection that removes entrained air and ensures liquid at seal face at all times
- Designed with a heavy cylindrical bracket with 360° registers on both flanges to provide a rigid union of pump and motor
- Features radially split casing with equal suction and discharge flange sizes and separate tapped openings for gauge, flush and drain connections
- The pump has dynamically balanced impeller to assure smooth vibration and free operation
- Liberal inlet passageways and straightening vanes of the Armstrong 4380 pumps provide optimum suction performance and quiet operation
- Features confined casing gasket to meet stringent industrial temperature and pressure applications
Installation of the Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps
Below are some of the important points to keep in mind while installation of the vertical in-line pumps-
- When installing vertical in-line pumps, one of the most important considerations is to accrue full added-value from the pump design in order to ensure that the pump is pipe-mounted and free to ‘float’ with any movement, expansion, and contraction of the piping
- Make sure that no pipe strain is imposed on the pump flanges while installation
- Various pieces of equipment such as springs or ‘waffle’ style isolation pads that distort with pressure to indicate added piping weight, should be used under pump supports should the pump not be truly pipe mounted.
Advantages of Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps
- 1.Low installation cost
One of the primary benefits of the Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps is the low installation cost. The vertical In-line design helps in eliminating the need for inertia bases, flex connectors, housekeeping pads, and other field alignment or grouting requirements. Furthermore, the Vertical In-line design also minimizes space and pipe requirements thus further lowering the cost of installation substantially.
- 2.Operating cost is minimal
Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps are designed with an advanced seal design (sintered silicon carbide) for better seal adjustments and zero lubrication. The Vertical In-Line design also allows for service without disturbing the pump casing thus minimizing the operational cost of the pump. The pump also features the twin design for full redundancy in case of emergency or routine servicing.
- 3.Less energy consumption
Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps are equipped with high-efficiency NEMA-premium motors that significantly reduce the energy consumption and overall operating costs. Vertical In-line design further minimizes the pipe requirements and related friction losses resulting in higher system efficiency
How to use Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps
Below are some of the guidelines for the safe usage and storage of the vertical in-line pumps-
- Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps must be properly installed and maintained to prevent excessive rusting.
- Pump port protection plates must not be removed until the pump is ready to connect to the piping.
- It is advisable to rotate the shaft periodically (at least once in a month) to keep rotating element free and bearings of the pump fully functional.
- For long-term storage, the Armstrong 4380 Vertical In-Line Pumps must be placed in a vertical position in a dry environment.
- To prevent the internal rusting of the pump, remove the plugs at the top and bottom of the casing and drain or air blow out all water to prevent rust buildup or the possibility of freezing.
- Make sure to reinstall the plugs when the unit is made operational.
- After removing the pump from the crate, make sure the equipment is in good order and that all components are received as called for on the packing list. Any shortages or damage should be reported immediately.
- It is also recommended to use extreme care in handling the unit, placing slings and hooks carefully so that stress will not be imposed on the pump.
