A Detailed Guide on Taco KS Split Coupled Inline Pump Series

Taco Split Coupled Inline Pump is a new series which has set a high standard in maintenance and service and delivers high performance. This coupled inline pump has been specifically designed for the ease of installation. Taco KS Series Pumps find a vast application in industrial applications, pressure boosting, cooling towers, water service and HVAC purposes.

Specifications and Features

Here is a list of the features and specifications of Taco Split Coupled Inline Pump.

Stainless steel pump shaft

Taco KS Series Pumps have pump shafts made from stainless steel. It ensures durability, resistance to rust and corrosion and longevity.

Efficient split coupler design

It has a standard seal design which makes seal operations easy and flexible. The split coupler, one of the key characteristics of this pump, allows you to change the seal without disturbing the piping or the motor. This split coupler design keeps the motor drive separated from the system. Hence, you can make repairs and fixes easily and swiftly.

Seal flush

All models have a recirculating seal flush line which prolongs the seal line. It decreases the downtime of pumps which could occur from the consequences of seal leaks.

Throttle bushing

The seal of the Taco KS Series Pump must be kept away from contamination by dirt and contaminants for maximum efficiency. This is ensured by the throttle bushing.

Impeller

The impeller of Taco Split Coupled Inline Pump has high efficiency and it available in all standard sizes. They are drilled and mounted at the base of the casing. By close running the impeller, pump efficiency is achieved.

Replaceable pump support bracket, casing wear ring and external seal

The pump support bracket is replaceable. You can also replace the external seal and the casing wear. These replacements can be done easily and effectively. If these parts go through wear and tear, you can easy make the small changes and achieve full efficiency.

Support stand (optional)

The Taco Split Coupled Inline Pump comes with an optional support stand. They are made from rugged ductile iron. You can add this to all models of the KS pump series. The support stand reduces the amount of space taken by the pump. It has easy access bolt holes which makes mounting the pump on the stand much faster. Moreover, having a support stand makes repairs, maintenance and installation easier.

A single pump in a closed system

If you plan on installing a single pump in a closed system, you must know a few important things about it.

In hydronic heating and cooling systems or other closed systems, the pump circulates the same amount of fluid in a loop. The feature which is of interest here is the flow rate. The faster the flow rate, the higher is the functionality. It has no static head and fluid lifting does not take place. No matter what the design or size is, any pump in a closed system is designed to produce the same flow.

A single pump in an open system

For single pumps installed in an open system, the shutoff head of the pump should always be equal to the static head. Practically, it is about 5-10% higher than the static head. This is done so that in case of reductions in the pump head, the shutoff head would become lower than the static head. Impeller erosion, lower voltage or lesser motor speed could lead to reduction in the static head.

In case you are adding additional pumps, you must ensure that the shutoff heads are higher than the heads of the pumps which are running.

Pumps installed in a series or parallel

If you have a complex piping system where you need to install Taco KS Series Pumps in parallel or in series, here are some important facts that you must know.

Installing a series of pumps in parallel or series is economical. You can shut down one or more pumps when required. The remaining pumps will still continue to operate at full efficiency. When you install pumps in parallel, multiple flow capacity occurs against a common head.

Parallel pumping is a great way to conserve energy because the pumps operate in optimum condition and deliver full efficiency. The operating conditions must be checked and provided so that the pumps maintain a stable performance curve.

A Checklist with things you must ensure while installing the pump

➔The pump volute must be constructed of class 30 cast iron.

➔The discharge points and suction should be equal in pump casing. The casing must be drilled and tapped at both the discharge flanges and suction.

➔The impeller must be made of bronze It must maintain a steady hydraulic balance to ANSI Grade G6.3.

➔For continuous operation, the KS series pump should be coupled to NEMA rated motor.
